Energy Conservation Measures
|
Insulation of equipment (2002)
Installed insulation on the existing condensate receiver tanks and pressure-powered pump that are presently not insulated in mechanical room #B828M.
Steam: 215 MLB/yr
Annual Savings: $2,563 |
|
Upgrade Free Cooling system (2005)
New valves and controls were installed and connected to the building direct digital control (DDC) system. These controls will automatically switch the free cooling system to DCW backup mode when necessary.
Electricity: 20,120 kWh/yr
Water: 5,499 CCF/yr
Annual Savings: $24,890 |
|
Cooling Tower Piping Replacement (2006)
Carbon steel cooling tower piping will be removed and replaced with a value added RFP piping system with necessary tees, reducers, couplings, flanges, hangers, etc. Controls will be removed and re-installed.
Electricity: 22,356 kWh/yr
Water: 3,196 CCF/yr
Annual Savings: $9,182 |
| Environmental Quality: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reports that annual energy savings translate directly to reductions in the emissions of certain gases into the atmosphere. The Energy Conservation Measures implemented in this building have saved 360 MMBtu/yr. These measures will reduce 105 tons of Carbon Dioxide (CO2), 836 lbs of Sulfur Dioxide (SO2), and 401 lbs of Nitrogen Oxides (NOX) annually. This is equivalent to carbon sequestration of 29 acres of forest land or taking 21 cars off the road. |
