Water Conservation (2006)
Replaced an existing fan-coil unit in one of the laboratory spaces (Rm. #3042) in the Kraus Building (Bldg. #211). This fan-coil unit has a water-cooled condensing unit which is currently using city water in a once-through application.
Water: 885 CCF/yr
Sewer: 885 CCF/yr
Annual Savings: $3,816
Reducing Autoclave Trap Cooling Water (2007)
Reduced the amount of water being used to cool the condensate on the autoclave units in the prep rooms in the E. H. Kraus Building.
Steam: 34 MLB/yr
Water: 450 CCF/yr
Sewer: 450 CCF/yr
Annual Savings: $11,500

Environmental Quality:
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reports that annual energy savings translate directly to reductions in the emissions of certain gases into the atmosphere.  The Energy Conservation Measures implemented in this building have saved 8,197 MMBtu/yr. These measures will reduce 2,388 tons of Carbon Dioxide (CO2), 19,026 lbs of Sulfur Dioxide (SO2), and 9,129 lbs of Nitrogen Oxides (NOX) annually.   This is equivalent to carbon sequestration of 652 acres of forest land or taking 478 cars off the road.
